IFTA Quarterly Reporting 1

Agreement Between All 48 States & 10 Provinces

IFTA Quarterly Reporting

The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a pact between the lower 48 States and the ten Canadian provinces. It requires all Interstate Motor Carriers to have an IFTA Fuel Decal and to report fuel taxes to their base state. However, the agreement doesn’t affect Hawaii, Alaska, District of Columbia or the three northern Canadian territories.

IFTA was put in place to replace the old fuel tax system. Previously, Motor Carriers were required to have separate decal(s) for every state they operated in. IFTA simplifies the reporting and paying of taxes. The IFTA pact is intended to simplify the hassle of reporting fuel tax for Motor Carriers. This includes Motor Carriers who operate across IFTA Jurisdictions. The agreement applies to all Motor Carriers meeting the qualifications listed below:

By IFTA Standards, you can travel in 48 States and 10 Canadian provinces. In addition, there are 5 US States that still require you to register for their permit(s) regardless of an IFTA License (Connecticut, Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, Oregon).
