Effective January 1st, 2023, the State of Connecticut imposed a CT Highway Use Tax (HUT). The CT Highway Use Tax is a tax imposed on motor carriers operating certain vehicles on Connecticut’s public highways. The rate of the HUT varies depending on the type of vehicle being operated and is based on the vehicle weight/distance traveled within the state.

Motor Carriers who operate a vehicle with the Gross Weight of 26,000lbs. or more and carriers a Classification between Class 8 and Class 13 are Eligible/Required to have the CT Highway Use Tax Permit.

Motor Carriers must obtain a CT Highway Use Tax Permit from the Department of Revenue to operate their vehicles legally in Connecticut.
